232 itemsWelcome to John Carter Brown Library - Guatemala Collection
Guatemala was the fourth city in Spanish America to obtain a press, in 1660, brought there from Mexico by Bishop Payo Enriquez de Rivera. The JCB’s collection includes a number of works found nowhere else in the world, including printer and apothecary Cristobal de Hincapié Meléndez’s Virtudes de la habilla del Darien, que llaman de Guathemala from 1739.
Four of the books in this collection are included in the Indigenous Languages collection.
